Carefirst is a non-profit, charity, community-based social service provider with a history of serving the community for over 42 years. We are a publicly funded community service organization by the provincial and municipal governments, as well as by United Way of Greater Toronto. Carefirst is recruiting volunteer board candidates, who represent our diverse community, and who have a good understanding of the needs of the community. Successful candidates must prepare for and attend Board meetings 8-10 times a year and serve on one of our Board Committees (Finance, Human Resources, Ethics, Service Quality & Safety). All board members are to actively assist with fundraising initiatives to support the ongoing financial health of the organization. The Nomination Committee is interested in complementing the Board’s existing skills and qualifications, and who have strong knowledge and experience in one or more of the following areas:
  • Experience in Human Resources / Labour Relations, especially in the non-profit sector
  • Experience with and insight into the politics of not-for-profit and for-profit agencies delivering community based services
  • Understanding of the principles of public accountability and integrity
  • Experience in quality assurance and risk management, especially in health care sector
  • Experience in fundraising
  • Prior experience as a Board member is not required but is considered an asset.

Eligibility Requirements

All candidates must satisfy the following eligibility requirements:
  • Must be a resident of Ontario
  • Must be at least 18 years old
  • Must not have declared bankruptcy, or had disciplinary action by a security regulator or self-regulating investment organization in the past twenty years.
